🎯 Goal
- [x] Continue writing Mini Martial Artists - Part 2, start developing some of the charts / images.
🌟 Results
- Created the Mini Martial Artists - Part 2 blog post in the DIMMiN Blog
- Transferred the Mini Martial Artists template thumbnails to my laptop
- Outlined which charts I need to build to complete this post
🌱 Next Time
- Start by creating and uploading two demo fighters to use for the takedown demonstrations
- Learn how to animate them using their metadata and Javascript.
📝 Notes
I realized that I had written most of what I needed to for Mini Martial Artists - Part 2, now it's just a matter of creating the figures / supplemental materials required to complete the post. I transferred the side and featured images from the original Mini Martial Artists blog post and created the new blog post here. I've also outlined which kinds of figures and charts will be needed to complete this post. There are quite a few, but I'm hoping that most will be able to build off of each other (it's also just a good opportunity to get more practice with D3). The figures / charts I still need to add are listed below
- [ ] GIF OF FIGHTERS AWAITING COMBAT
- [ ] GIF OF TAKEDOWN SUCCESS
- [ ] GIF OF TAKEDOWN FAILURE
- [ ] Interactive Beta Distribution D3 Chart where user can apply a slider to change the height and width of alpha and beta parameters, both alpha and beta going from 1 to 100
- [ ] Beta distributions with input parameters of the above fighters’ stats
- [ ] Beta distribution of Usman’s takedown defense where the user can hover over the distribution and see the odds of being higher or lower than the current value as well as the roll value
- [ ] Same as above, except now with St-Pierre’s stats
- [ ] Allow the user to click on the chart to sample from the distribution. If the aggressor wins, the takedown animation plays from our fighters. If the defender wins, the defense animation plays and the fighters end in the clinch position
This will give me a good outline of the types of figures / graphs I'll need to consolidate. I'm especially interested in the last one. I wonder if there is an easy way to use Javascript to change the state of the animation and activate the animation once one fighter wins or loses. That could be fun to watch! Either way I'll have to use this checklist as a reference for what charts / things that I still need to create.
